Broths: for more variety in the kitchen

A delicious broth can be more than just the base for soups. It adds a subtle or strong flavour to any dish and is used by many cooks as seasoning. In our test kitchen, we are always trying out new uses for our broths, and here are the most popular:

Sauces

Refine your sauces with the addition of broth. The perfectly matched ingredients provide a delicious taste without the need to use multiple seasonings. Vegetable broth or chicken broth is perfect for light sauces, while dark sauces are best seasoned with beef broth.

Salad

Just mix a teaspoon of vegetable broth with a little olive oil and water - and you have a delicious dressing for your green salad. Add the broth to potato salad, too, or experiment with other ingredients like mustard or honey.

Casseroles and stews

All stews and casseroles can be enhanced with a good broth. Again, season light dishes with vegetable broth or chicken broth, and dark ones with beef broth. A little beef broth can also give a light casserole a very special flavour. Try it out!

Pasta

hether it's Bolognese sauce or carbonara, you can create wonderful flavour variations with broths for classic Italian dishes, too, with no effort at all.

Broth or bouillon - what's the difference?

Actually, there is no difference, bouillon is simply the French word for broth. But in German-speaking countries, the term bouillon has come to mean meat broths, especially beef broths, which are also known as Kraftbrühen.
