A fine fruity dream at Christmas time
Christmas time is the time of traditions. Especially in the German bakeries it hots up when the Stollen, cookie and gingerbread season starts. Another traditional Christmas cake is the Nuremberg fruit bread. Clearly, it is also to be found in the finest version in the Lebkuchen-Schmidt range.
But what is a fruit bread? "Bread" suggests that the pastry is savoury, but of course this is not true: Fruit bread is extremely sweet thanks to honey and the dried fruit, just the thing for all Christmas sweet tooth! Dried plums, figs and apricots are added to the dough - whole, by the way, so that each cut piece looks completely different. Nuts are, of course, also included!
After baking, the fruit bread should still be "matured" - at least two days (i.e. the time from purchase in our online shop to delivery), but about two weeks is better Then the fruits unfold their full aroma in combination with the dough. Enjoy it for breakfast instead of muesli, with tea or mulled wine!
