Real Baumkuchen is baked in layers on a rotating roller. What used to happen over an open fire has now been taken over by specially developed, electrically-heated baking appliances. The dough, made of butter, eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and flour, is applied in many individual layers: Whenever one layer is finished, the next one is painted over it - the whole thing, 10 to 20 times in a row. This process makes the layers of the finished cake resemble the annual rings of a tree.
If you lay our Baumkuchen beetle on its back, you will recognise the rounding of the roller. And if, despite his cute rolling eyes, you manage to get to grips with taking a knife to the little friend, you can clearly see the "annual rings". What you can't see: that the delicately melting chocolate coating forms a delicious bond with the masterfully and lovingly crafted pastry. You can only taste it. We recommend: Close your eyes and enjoy!
